We Wear: The better you dress, the worse you can behave

Today's outfit consists of a collision of some new and some rather old favorites. New in are the Sternum necklace that I got for my birthday and immediately became lord and master of my jewellery cabinet, as well as the rose gold loafers (another birthday present) and the soft pink leather jacket. I may or may not have been dreaming about combining these together at a moment in time where I had none of them already in my possession. Old items consists of the Titi + The German Kid shirt I bought last year (SUCH a winner still) and the skirt that has a story all on its own. 

I bought the maxi skirt at a very budget store. For those of you who know me, I definitely AM a budget type of girl, so when I say very budget, well, all bets are off. I bought it at Wibra last year and as I have friends who don't want to be spotted carrying a plastic bag from that store, I can only assume what may be going through you minds. However, no shame, as it is lovely and of pretty decent quality. Although I have to admit that as of lately I'm rethinking the whole 'budget shopping' for both ethical reasons and sustainability issues.

We Wear: Holiday haze

I have a confession to make: The past weeks I let  the blog entirely up to Lies as you may have noticed. But for good reason though, as I enjoyed an awesome - and if I say so myself well-deserved - holiday in the environment of Lisbon in Portugal. The first week was all about the beach and surfing, while the last days were spent city tripping in Lisbon itself. A perfect holiday and ever so timely right after the defense of my doctoral dissertation. 

However, as my outfit the first week solely consisted of denim cut-offs or a wetsuit (the latter I will not ever publish on the blog for your sake), I seem to be lacking in the outfit department. I did manage to shoot two outfits while on a holiday, which are combined in today's post because - in hindsight - they are variants to the exact same theme: black and white monochrome, also known as effortlessly cool.

PS: I think I should live nearby the ocean, it calms me down so massively. I've been feeling so relaxed ever since spending time in Lisbon. However, as reality comes creeping in (more like banging on the door), I feel my stress levels slowly rising. MUSTKEEPCALM! Another reason for living near the shore: my hair started doing this weird curly thing. For a girl who spent most of her teen years furiously obtaining wavy, curly hair, this is a milestone indeed.

We Wear: Despite Perfect Fashion

Maybe I could apologize for the big ladder in my tights, but actually why should I. This is how I went out last weekend, despite what my mom had to say about that, so it seemed only fair to show you this entire outfit. Ladder inclusive. Isn't that what fashion can be about: it's not at all perfect and you should also show the imperfections? Some may call it pitiful, I call it honesty. In the end it's all just a matter of perception.

I think the ladder works well with my safety pin embellished leather jacket. I say embellished but it's a necessity to keep my jacket together, it's had its best days. (I still love it.) The two of them together contrast perfect with my more preppy leopard dress and my crisp white kicks. Because a little drama and a little contrast has never hurt anyone. (I have a feeling I say that a lot.) It felt quite good to finally combine these kicks with a dress instead of with pants.

Oh and I'm not wearing lipstick. It's cherry flavored Labello (okay, you actually don't see that at all). There are some little things in life that can make me very happy and the smell of cherry Labello - or any other artificially enhanced cherry smells (like the candy oh my gooooood) - is one of those things. Same goes for anything coconutty. Coconutty. Nice.

What We Wear Wednesday: Groezsick

I think I might be in love with Groezrock. It's the kick-off of the festival season and always stands for one of the best weekends of the year: great punkrock bands, laid-back atmosphere, Hoegaarden Rosé, the best of friends to keep you company, first rays of spring sunshine,...  What not to love! So I'm definitely not homesick while at Groez, I'm Groezsick while at home.

We were pretty lucky with the forecasted weather. It didn't rain, unlike the evening before, and during the day it wasn't all thàt cold. But when the sun set, hell literally froze over. I'm talking three extra layers (sweater, hoodie, leather jacket: that's a lot for me) and a fleece blanket to drape yourself into in your sleeping bag. Acting stupid in a crowd luckily gets you warm(er) too.

I brought two outfits - yes I bring two outfits to a festival, so what - but only ended up wearing one. My coral skirt really was a bit too optimistic, as I wanted to wear it bare legged. Instead I was wearing my jeans shorts with panties, Vans, knee socks, some black old blouse and my leather jacket. An easy yet festival proof outfit. I really love my sparkly knee socks by the way. They're sparkly! And did I already mention they sparkle?

At night I replaced my shorts with some skinnies and my Vans were traded for boots. Sweater, hoodie and scarf were also added. I survived, it's a matter of balance between dressing well and drinking enough.

What We Wear Wednesday: Pastel Parade

I woke up on Sunday and whitnessed magnificent rays of sunlight. That inspired me to bring out my floral Zara pants again and to even combine it with my floral headband that Karolien got me for my birthday last year. Then I came downstairs and took an actual look out the window. Well hello there, snow. So all my floral was a bit spring optimistic, but I couldn't care less. I was going to wear floral and pastels and nobody was going to stop me. Nobody. If I would have had a pastel coat, I would've worn it too. But alas.

As you can see: I have also found my pair of glitter boots. I scored them during the sales at New Look for only 9 euros. Can you believe that? I wasn't really sure 'bout the shade of brown, but Karolien convinced me. We're really good at convincing eachother to buy shoes, as you can also see in her previous post.

You may not notice, but I've been to the hairdresser. Quite the accomplishment because I haven't been for more than a year! I HATE going to the hairdresser because they always screw things up. This time has been no different. Okay they didn't screw up, but they didn't do what I asked either. They almost gave me a rounded fringe... A straight fringe needs to be straight, not rounded. And she didn't ask me if I wanted it rounded, she just cut along. I had to squeel "Please make it straight!" before she did so. I bet I looked as frightened as a rabbit in the headlights of a car. I also asked to make my hair more layered so that my ends fall in a V-shape on my back. I don't know if she didn't hear me or utterly ignored me, but it didn't happen. I also asked to get the yellow tones out of my blondish hair, but that didn't went very well either. But okay, I don't blame them for that. Me dyeing my own hair probably has something to do with that. And last but not least, she didn't show me my hair afterwards, you know with a mirror reflecting in the mirror in front of you so you can check your hair when it falls down your back? I bet she did it on purpose, so I wouldn't notice she ignored my wishes. Ofcourse I didn't have the guts to tell her I wasn't satisfied. I have a big mouth on (virtual) paper, but I'm a scaredy cat in real life you know. I know I'm not going back for at least another year.

What We Wear Wednesday: Flowers and Flamingos

So this time I'm not too late. Hooray!

I wore this outfit to go have a drink with my lovely niece. During the day I was wondering what to wear and I had this alliteration in my head: flowers and flamingos. I already posted something on Twitter 'bout wanting to have a flamingo, my brain just sometimes works like that. And then it totally hit me that I also OWN flowers and flamingos! Clothing-wise that is. Flamingos are the coolest thing and when I saw Alexa Chung for Vero Moda rocking this blouse, I had to go and buy it. Ok, she's actually rocking the dress and I got the blouse. Plus, the flamingos are pale pink and we all know I love pale pink. I'm beginning to wonder if it ever gets boring. Well, not for me!

So I wanted to combine my pale pink flamingo printed blouse, with my pale pink floral printed pants. I thought it worked quite well. This is one of my other ZARA pants I was talking about HERE. I was having second thoughts about this one, but my mom said to just take it. So that's what I did. And I sure don't regret it! It's a bit more loose than the other skinnies though, which is too bad.

Because the whole thing is a bit...well, pale. I threw in my black faux leather jacket, to spice things up. I bought the thing two years ago when I was in Barcelona at a local ZARA (I seem to have bought a lot of things two years ago, but I was a working girl back then) and I really love it. I love the leopard print on the inside and the lovely short fit. But I have always annoyed myself about the long sleeves, I don't want no short arms! So I got the luminous idea to roll up my sleeves. Took me quite a while huh. And double win: now you can see the leopard print and it doesn't involve me and flashing.

My purse is also from Barcelona, but it's thrifted. Barcelona really is second-hand heaven! Besides pale pink, I have a thing for white. Which means I own a lot of white purses and shoes. You'll see. The shoes that I'm wearing here are also thrifted. And they hurt like hell! I think it's a small 37, which fits, but the leather is really stiff. But they are soooo pretty! I'm such a woman.
