We Love: GIGS! And Double Veterans

Karolien could not have said it better in her previous post. Let's never be afraid and let's never change our way of living. Only if you are a downright prick, you might just consider being nicer from now on. And what we from Peaches and Peaches love to do is go to concerts, drink our beer and enjoy the music that's being played on stage. So that's what this post is going to be about.

It's already been a couple of weeks since Lorenz and I went to see some gigs at Het Bos in Antwerp. It was a Friday night and I was pretty tired from the work week but some bands just make you push your boundaries. In this case Double Veterans is to blame for my lack of sleep. I've seen them play a couple of times before (and a couple more already planned) and I will never get bored of their dirty guitars. The crowd seemed to agree with this as they all went ballisitic once they started pounding their instruments.

I had never been to Het Bos before, I'm not really a regular in Antwerp, but the place looked really indie and they serve gluten free beer. Hipster alert! So when in doubt, I remember nights like these filled with music, beer (and free tap water!) and good people.

All pictures were taken with my phone as I - for once - did not bring my camera. If you like the sound of Double Veterans's dirty guitars, make sure to check them out! They will be playing together with Equal Idiots (one of the De Nieuwe Lichting winners) at Muziekodroom the 21st of April!

We Care

The 22nd of March was the day we all expected, the day we all dreaded. The day our Belgium got hit by disgusting terrorist attacks. And it hit us hard, the realization that our tiny, often ridiculous Belgium isn't safe.

Until Tuesday, I never fully identified with being "Belgian". After all, we're not a country that is defined in its' essence by a rich culture or that is romanticized like Paris is. All anybody associates with Belgium are fries, chocolate, beer and a little guy peeing. And the fact that we did not have a government for a significant amount of time. In fact, a lot of people in the world don't even know Belgium at all for that matter. But this Tuesday, that all changed, for me, for us and for the world.

I was sad, angry and worried about the future. I still am. But I'm also proud, proud of our beer, our way of good living, proud of our cats filling Twitter during the Brussels lockdown in the Paris attacks aftermath, proud of us Belgians writing messages in chalk on squares and sidewalks after tragedy struck, proud of the fact that only a minority are using inflammatory war rhetoric. We're not the prettiest of countries, but we're rock fucking solid.

As I'm writing this on a late train back home, I hope we can stay rock solid and most importantly, show solidarity. This too shall pass and all of us with a good heart have to stand together to face those with a poisoned heart. The day they rip us apart, the day they will cause us to be afraid of our brothers and sisters with a different color of skin or a different religion is the day they win, as cliché as that may sound. In the night of the Paris attacks, at 2 AM, I felt my world view and my ideals stagger for a brief moment. In those little hours, they almost won, but I realize now they'll never be able to turn me. I will never be afraid, I will never let them change the way I live my life nor will I let them change my beliefs and ideals. And I'm not the only one.

I will go to Brussels on Monday to enjoy a concert and I will then sing the lyrics to the song "Solidarity" now even louder than ever. We'll never forget this and our hearts lay with all the victims and their families. Fuck you daeshbags.

Je suis... Sick of this shit...

We Wear: Fancy farmer Joe in denim dungarees and glitter socks

Vest: c/o SKM // Shirtdress: SheInside // Denim dungarees: H&M // Brogues: Pertini via La Bottega // Glitter socks: Veritas // Necklace: H&M (old) // Purse: Détail

Did anyone say golden hour? Seems like the perfect hour to make some hay! Or you know, drink some wine and eat some pasta for one of your best friends's birthday. Making hay in glitter socks would be very overdressed anyway. The shirt has proven itself multifunctional: it's actually a shirt-dress which I have worn as a dress to an award show (yes that does sound fancy huh) but to make it more work appropriate the next day I added my denim dungarees. Together with my new favorite vest from SKM and my go-with-everything-brogues from La Bottega, I really got the feeling Farmer Joe fancied up his game.

I really don't know why I'm so attracted to blue lately, or maybe it's just coincidence.

Somebody did not want his picture published :D

We Wear: Cash in blue suede Vans and 10 euro jeans

Coat: SheInside // Top: Vila via Zalando // Skinnies: H&M // Sneakers: Vans
Pictures by Sofie

"Well, you can do anything. But stay off of my blue suede shoes"

That seems almost impossible as I like to wear my blue suede shoes to punkrock shows. So unlike Elvis's, my blue suede shoes already got pretty stepped on. But I don't mind. Vans need to look a little worn. I mean, what's punkrock in clean shoes? I'm really digging the vintage, grungy red and blue vibe that's going on in this outfit. So I was pretty stoked we found a backdrop adding to this vibe. The outfit's pretty cash but sometimes cash is all you need. Especially when you have a hella busy week. I sure do need my sleep to function somewhat normal during the day and I can assure you my functionalities were seriously messed with this week. Sleep deprivation anyone? I have a feeling this will not improve for quite some time so I do hope my body will find a way to adapt. On the other hand: being busy is keeping busy. If you know what I mean. Probably not so I'll explain: when you have a lot of things to do and you feel really "useful" it motivates to be busy in other aspects of your life too. And for me it expresses itself through the blog. Well, you guys probably didn't notice that yet but that's because the ideas for new blogposts have only just emerged in my brain. I didn't expect you guys to be psychic. This writing isn't really going anywhere so ima just stop rambling. Goodbye for now!

Almost forgot the bloopers:

We Wear: Silver linings

What to do when the holidays are far behind you and you still haven't worn that one dress you bought for New Year's Eve before deciding to go for something completely else? I can't be the only one, right? And with spring so close we can almost touch it - I'm an optimist - I decided now was as good a time as any to break the dress out of my closet. The outfit I threw on on a whim actually surprised be as I couldn't stop twirling and loved every aspect of it. And that my dear friends is the silver lining you should always look for, even when life - or people - kicks you right to the teeth and even when you don't believe it yourself . "Fake it 'till you make it" is not that bad an advice, even though some horrible TV reality show person here in Belgium (ding ding ding, Temptation Island alert) may have ruined it for me for an eternity to come.

PS: I have to say though, in real life, it's way more sparkly and silver than it is in these pictures...

We Wear: Peachy

Coat: Topshop via Zalando // Jean jacket: Pretty little things // Peachy top: H&M // White shirt: H&M// Necklace: market in Porto // Faux suede skirt: H&M // Biker Boots: Rebecca Minkoff via Zalando // Totebag: TITI + THE GERMAN KID

First of all: sorry for the messy hair. Seems it was bad-hair-Wednesday! And thank you Sofie for taking these pictures! We had 15 minutes to spare before our evening class so why not take advantage of those amiright. This outfit made me feel like the more rocky version of Cher from Clueless: faux suede skirt with pastel top and crisp white shirt combined with - my beloved - biker boots and slightly oversized jean jacket. I guess it's no wonder people still ask my ID when buying alcohol: I dress like a sixteen year old. I'm not ready yet to toss the "cutesy" style aside so for now I'll accept the fact people sometimes mistake me for a minor. I'll point out the wrinckles underneath my eyes next time that happens.

I'm posing here without my coat in some pictures but it was actually pretty cold and windy (hence the messy hair...) And an hour before these pictures were taken (and before I had to walk a kilometer to my car from work) hailstones were falling from the sky like crazy. Luckily it all cleared up and left us with a pretty amazing sky that unfortunately isn't very visible in these pictures. I'm so happy the days are getting longer already! Although I am still waiting for some snow...
