We Attended: O'Neill SS15 Exclusive Event

Three weeks ago already we were invited to attend the O'Neill SS15 collection preview at Haarlem city, Amsterdam by the lovely ladies from Media Mania PR. Alas Karolien couldn't join me so I dragged my boyfriend along and we made a little city trip out of it. Which I will also report on, soon, in between work, napping and a social life. The event took place in an old sugar factory which immediately explained the R&B vibe the location's name carried: Sugar City. Old buildings or factories with high ceilings and original ornaments are always a good choice of place for an event, because it already breathes a certain magical atmosphere. And I am very fond of magical atmospheres, it makes things harder to forget. I basically know O'Neill as a surf brand and surf vibes is what we got when we entered Sugar City. And I don't only mean by the collection as portrayed, but also by the people roaming the place. I saw a lot of blonde surfer dudes and babes and reminisced about that one time I went surfing and being really bad at it. Whilst sipping some white wine and munching on shrimp satays we made our way through the world of O'Neill. I have to admit that the collection didn't strike me as overwhelmingly new or different. I spotted a lot of floral and palm tree prints, which I absolutely liked but have seen before. The swim wear did promise to be "more hyperdry than ever before", guaranteed by the O'Neill design team. Besides on the collection, the event seemed to focus on feel-good and happy vibes which they achieved by the performance of a live (ska) band, getting people tipsy with Donn beer, stuffing our faces with delicious satays and tempting our inner rebels with some good old flavoured bongs. It's not a myth, surfers are all about kindness and feel-good! And we did feel good! So thank you again Media Mania PR and O'Neill for this wonderful opportunity! Now enjoy some snapshots!

We Wear: Mini Maxi

A mini crop top and a maxi skirt go together like gin and tonic: It truly is a match made in heaven. Especially when you're just dipping your first toe in the crop top pond, it is the perfect way to still feel comfortable. So go for it, and let's all do the crop top dance together! (Insert Hawaiian dance here)

I don't have that much to tell you guys actually, I'm feeling a little uninspired lately. I guess it does have to do with the fact that it are BUSSAAAY times for me at this point. I'm turning in my PhD dissertation in a week and work still must be done, but the end is near (Cross your fingers!). In addition, the World Cup happening at this moment also takes up quite a chunk of my time (Gooo Red Devils!). With so little time and being stuck behind a computer most of my day, I just don't feel like crawling behind it again after getting home so I've been running behind on reading my favorite blogs and browsing through inspiring websites.

Soon, very soon I will be back!

We Wear: Floral

Dress: Zara - Flatforms, socks: H&M - Earrings: New Look - Watch: Casio (Urban Outfitters) - Bag: Stradivarius

This must be the most uninspiring blog title ever, but sometimes self-explanatory is all you need. I wore this outfit to attend the O'Neill event last week in Amsterdam - which has been awesome by the way, but more about that later.

You may recognize this dress from my birthday wishlist, but you probably won't because really who remembers all this stuff? Kudos if you do though! This is actually another gift card well spent at Zara, I cannot say no to some good back cleavage.

When I was mentally preparing myself for our Amsterdam trip (read: put together outfits in my head), I felt this dress needed white shoes. So I visited H&M and got me these white, lacey flatforms. I really like platform sneakers and always drooled over the ones Karolien owns, so it was about time I got me a pair of my own! The socks were a last-minute addition but I actually liked how they completed my outfit.

Due to yesterday's concert watching (Jeffrey Lewis, check him out!) and beer drinking followed by work today, I'm not very talkative but I'll get back to you this week with an O'Neill event review and Amsterdam report! Now that's something to look forward to, right?

We wear: Cropped top

So where do we stand on crop tops? And by 'we' I mean you, our dearest readers, as I believe my opinion is pretty obvious. I absolutely love them and think my summer wardrobe should have MORE CROP TOPS. It's kind of becoming my mantra these days. I feel like they spice up every single outfit and just get me floating on a summer breeze by just thinking about wearing them. However, seemingly not everybody is as fond of them as I am. I mean, yes, a crop top can possibly show off a lot of skin that is under normal circumstances hidden. Notice the keyword being 'possibly', as in 'not necessarily' as yours truly exhibits in these pictures. I think it's rather subtle, no? And even if girls decide to wear them in a way where their belly button is showing, I can only applaud that they have built up enough confidence and have the guts (or lack thereof) to wear them that way. I do not however, so I'll stick with offering the world just a glance at my diaphragm.

Excuse me for the slight rant, I have been reading up on some articles about girl's body shaming and it infuriated me deeply. In addition, I've been writing and writing my PhD dissertation (due date is this month, hmpff) and I kind of feel my head is clouded and I'm overthinking  EVERYTHING.

PS: Told you so that this denim jacket would make a reappearance on the blog soon.
