We Wear: Weekend look

Aaah, take me back to a time, not so long ago, where I could venture outside without looking like a pile of clothes. A time like when these pictures were taken for instance! Now, we're in deep winter temperatures which make me pull out of my blanket-like clothes. If there would be something like a face beanie, I'd wear the shit out of it!

Unfortunately, freezing winter temperatures will stick with us for a while still. So for now, all there's to do is waiting for temperatures to increase again a little bit so this casual weekend look can be mine again. Even more so on weekends, I always seem to reach to comfy sneakers combined with (even more) oversized shirts and blouses. And the millions of booties I got in my dressing are crying because they feel unappreciated and unworn... Winter time got me in a rut. If it's not gonna snow anytime soon - 'cause snow is pretty and makes me happy- blanket outfits will make their entrance on the blog. I apologize in advance.

We Wear: Grey Matters

Top: Mango - Skinnies, necklace: H&M - Sneakers: Vans - Purse: Mme Bovary pop up shop - Watch: Urban Outfitters - Lipstick: It's a matte world by Catrice

I wear a lot of black and grey these days. During summer I like to dress up like a popsicle and children tend to think I ran away from some My Little Pony movie, but as soon as the weather starts to shift and the leaves turn brownredyellow, my wardrobe tends to loose its color. Maybe, unconsciously I don't want to steal the spotlight from Mother Nature. Maybe I'm just full of crap. Anyhow, since we didn't have much of a summer this year, the transition in my wardrobe happened early.

At first I wasn't sure about the grey on grey thing, but this combination sort of happened to me on Pukkelpop  and I really liked it. So I went all monochrome and added my beloved black Vans and a necklace to look at least a bit classy. I forgot how much I like a good necklace, and I really love the sas this simple one immediately brings to an outfit. To break all the grey I also put on some lipstick. I hardly do that because I'm always afraid it will get stuck on my teeth - because I am clumsy like that - but since the BF likes it very much, I'm trying to make an effort once a while. I even think my glasses fit this outfit rather well.

I wore this outfit last weekend (minus necklace and lipstick) to eat escargots at a local fair, sip some wine at that same fair and watch "Les revenants" with said BF. Really, how awesome is this show! We started watching last week whilst catsitting and were hooked right away. Great atmosphere, great characters (girl crushing is already beginning) and a great plot with a good dose of mystique.

So do you guys like escargots?

Sunday Discovery: Retro & Chic

Last Sunday I attended the Bruisfestival at Maastricht together with some friends. We had some beers, some laughs and did some dancing to Miles Kane and the fantastic Kitty, Daisy and Lewis.

Beforehand we visited the city. Miles Kane didn't start until 7 p.m. and there wasn't anything in particular we wanted to see before that. The ideal opportunity to do some (window)shopping. I don't visit Maastricht very often so I don't know the city very well (must.change.that.). Luckily my friends did, so all I had to do was follow their lead.

That's how we encountered a little shop called "Retro & Chic". The beautiful shopwindow draw our attention and sucked us further into the store. What we saw there was a gorgeous collection of carefully selected vintage goods going from clothing to shoes, hats, jewelry, belts, gloves,... I didn't take a lot of pictures because I wasn't planning on writing a blogpost about this, but because I bought the most beautiful pair of earrings there, I could not say nothing about this little but grand store. So I highly recommend you pay a visit when you're going to Maastricht! You can find them in the Heggenstraat 1, Maastricht.

The earrings!

Talking 'bout Miles Kane brings me seamless to my next topic: Chelsea Boots. After we attacked our bank account at the Retro & Chic store we strolled to H&M for some usual browsing. As soon as I entered the store I saw a pair of Chelsea Boots (yes, capitals) blinking in my eye sight. I had a sigh and shambled towards them, allready knowing I'd fall head over heels, while I was cursing my current job status. I tried them on and what I feared came true: they were perfect. I cursed some more (silent and muffled, I did have an upbringing you know) and took some photos so I could at least take them home in 2D.

Because I like to share my torture with you, here are the infamous Chelsea Boots:

So are you smitten about the earrings and Chelsea Boots as much as I am?

What We Wear Wednesday: Radio Modern

So, who else was surprised when they woke up Sunday morning? Or in my case: Sunday afternoon. I got out of Sofie's bed with a slight headache thanks to the night before, only to discover that the SUN was shining. You got that right. No rain pouring down, but actual rays of sunlight were beaming down from the sky. I almost forgot what that looked like, or better: how it felt. After some hangover Chinese food in the sun, I headed home and decided it was the perfect weather to take some outfit pictures.

We went to Radio Modern the night before at the C-mine in Genk. A retro, vintage, Italian inspired party. And although there have been a lot of remarks concerning the decoration - or the lacking of any - we had a great time and shook our asses the whole night long. That's a lie. Only 'till 2 o'clock and then we were being swept out, together with the plastic beer cups, by a not so friendly lady with an even more unfriendly broomstick.

It's of course impossible to go to a retro party without dressing up. Radio Modern screams for polka dots so that's what I wore. I got this dress from ModCloth and I absolutely adore it! It fits beautifully and has the ideal length (maybe not for long-legged Karolien). I love the tender pastel hue it has and teamed it up with some whites. Whites really make my heart beat faster, I don't know why but I always fall head over heels for white accessories. Especially shoes and purses but jewelry will equally do the trick. I'm not trying to give hints for my birthday. It's in December, I'm not thàt crazy. (Although now you DO know it's in December, right?)

Have any of you ever been to a Radio Modern party? It's definitely worth it!

INSPIRATION: Jaime King aka Lemon Breeland

The word "inspiration" might not catch the whole thing that is going on here, as I'm heavily girl crushing on Jaime King. Not too heavy though, I'm still very much into boys.

Now how did this all happen? I started watching Hart of Dixie a few weeks ago. A new show about Zoë Hart (Rachel Bilson, known from The OC), a New York city girl trained to be a hart surgeon, ending up in a Southern little village called Bluebell to be a general practitioner. She doesn't fit in, thinks everyone living there voluntarily must be crazy in the coconut and starts flirting with Golden Boy George, who obviously flirts back. This happens to be the boyfriend-for-already-fifteen-years of Southern belle Lemon Breeland (my dear Jaime King). Lemon does everything in her power to get rid of Zoë which, of course, doesn't work. (This is a brief summary of the show, there is more to it than only this. Go check it out!)

At first you don't like Lemon (apart from her name which is amazing). She's spoiled, annoying and extremely neurotic. She really gets on your nerves and you wonder why on earth George still puts up with her. You just want him to ditch her and move on with Zoë allright. But then you get to know her. Her mother left them, she takes care of her little sister Magnolia (midst puberty) where her father fails to do so and actually completely replaces her mother in household chores and everything. You also start noticing her clothes and hair and that they always look impeccable.

And then suddenly it happens. You love Lemon and totally want to be her. Or at least that's how it went for me. I'm easily lured into these kind of things though.

Now for the clothes. Lemon is always dressed up in cute, vintage dresses and preppy cardigans. Her hair slightly curled, preferably with a flower on the side. When she's not dressed up, she reaches for pastel skinnies, slightly oversized jumpers and ballet flats. My kind of girl!

Now behold the beauty that is Lemon Breeland:

I tried to style some Lemon based outfits myself, let me know what you think!
