What We Wear Wednesday: Cheerleader squad

When Lies mentioned in one of the previous posts that she had a new skirt, I already knew trouble were ahead. That's because I was pretty sure I bought the same one a few weeks beforehand. Now, us buying the same or similar items has happened before (one of the risks of shopping at H&M and New Look) and always with the same consequences: walking around like Siamese twins or something. This time was no different. When I arrived at the Rock Herk festival, I heard a muffled scream along the lines of  a sad cat screaming 'Oh noo!' bursting out of Lies' mouth. Yep, we were wearing the same skirt.

It felt like we were both about to cheer for our favorite hunky quarterback in the local high school team. However, I do think we styled it quite differently (good for us!). And this actually might just come down to the core of our styles and the combination of both of these styles: we are similar, but still different. This does not mean that we are copies or absolutely desperately trying to be the same girl. Nope, we are just best friends who are interested in the same styles, love the same things, shop at the same stores, inspire each other and both have brown hair. But we still do our own thing and love each other for it. Next time we'll coordinate our outfits though in order to NOT wear the same skirt at the same time.

What We Wear Wednesday: Winter coat

Somewhere around mid August I started pinning pictures from winter coats. Mostly because I always start too late with searching for that perfect match and end up freezing my ass off for half of the winter season. So this year I took a head start! Because I've been wearing my spring/summer parka nonstop (and actually only stopped wearing it only two weeks ago, still keeping that summer spirit alive yeah), I had my mind set on a more freezing temperatures adapted winter version. With of course the necessary amount of fur!

The decision wasn't all that hard, I fell in love (literally) with this jacket when I first laid my eyes on it on the River Island website. A very well-timed trip to Antwerp for the Bloggers Closet Sale and Antwerp Fashion Night was the perfect opportunity for trying it on and taking it home with me. It has been hanging in my closet since the end of September and now finally, a week ago the temperatures really dropped and it was time to wear it. I always procrastinate on wearing my winter coat, because I fear that I might grow sick of it before winter has even appropriately started. Is it just my general weirdness or something other people recognize?

I have to say I'm a bit bummed to see similar jackets appearing everywhere, but I still like mine best, so neh neh (imagine me sticking out my tongue). I think it gives me a true Scandinavian or Russian feel, but I guess that must be my general, very superficial stereotypes kicking in.

PS: Have to redo/redye my hair, but I'm absolutely lost on which colour and if I even want a colour again... FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!

What We Wear Wednesday: Glow in the dark

So we all got the part where neon is hot. And that it hurts your eyes (sorry). During my stay in Cannes two weeks ago, I spotted the most gorgeous girl with the most perfect neon maxi skirt. So when I came back in Belgium and saw this skirt just hanging there at H&M, I immediately took it with me to the fitting room. I was already convinced that I love maxi skirts....on other people. Just not me. Result? Me twirling around that fitting room for ages with that skirt, but I'm SO glad I decided to just go ahead and take it! I'm really into not thinking too much (or should I say: doubting too much) and just go for things these days, so it seems. And that same day already I took my skirt out for a spin. I was having some drinks with friends at Genk city. Sure got a lot of looks! Probably because I was blinding people, the glow in the dark bit is not a joke, folks! This skirt makes me feel graceful and sophisticated even, I don't know if it actually looks that way too but ah well...who cares.

This is also the outfit I wore to attend the Pukkelpop Boiler Party. Just a matter of kicking off a festival in style. And with a hangover the day after. I know that Karolien already emphasized it enough, but Pukkelpop has been truly awesome, sigh.

If any of you have any complaints about hurting eyes or even nausia because of the brightness of my skirt, please leave a comment below and I'll blow a kiss to make things right.

Pukkelpop: The aftermath

After a week of recuperating sleep, eating healthy food and resting, the time is right to submerge again in the whole Pukkelpop experience and really indulge in those moments. Pukkelpop was, as always (minus the edition of 2011, of course), three days filled with beautiful nights, beautiful people and beautiful music as Dave Grohl put so aptly. For me, it was even an anniversary edition: It was my tenth Pukkelpop attendance and I of course celebrated this properly (read: by dancing and drinking, as one should at a festival).

Before leaving you with some snapshots of the festival, I would like to tell a little anecdote that is especially relevant for this blog. Remember how we explained in a DIY how to dip and dye your clothes? I dyed my shorts and decided to wear them to the Pukkelpop festival. Not a bad idea, one would think, and I even got random compliments from random people. At least for the time being, because obviously submerging your shorts in serious amounts of bleach, dyeing it afterwards, wearing it to a festival with dirt and throwing water all over it to cool down a bit (hello, 35° Celcius) was NOT a good idea. To keep the story short: I ripped my pants. Unintentionally that is. Luckily however, it wasn't too bad and I changed out of them in an instant. Nevertheless, keep that in mind when bleaching your clothes!

Pukkelpop was: La Vache Qui Rit cheese, beer, crazy festival dude (a legend, I tell ya!), Vans, arm candy, pretty lights, denim shorts, hats to keep one's brains safe from the sun, dip and dye hair, GREAT music, ...
Dear Pukkelpop, you are still in the running towards becoming my favourite festival.

What We Wear Sunday: Rock Werchter Outfit

So, as promised, here is my What We Wear Wednesday with a 'slight' delay. I guess I could come up with a bunch of excuses to justify why I haven't posted this on an actual Wednesday. But no, I will not.  I decided to show you guys what I was wearing to Rock Werchter. I wore the same outfit twice because I loved it and because I thought it was, for me although, a perfect festival outfit!

I bought the skirt two years ago at H&M. I didn't wear it much back in the days, but nowadays I totally rediscovered it. I love love love the pastel flower pattern. And pastels weren't even a big hit two years ago. I remember seeing it hanging there and it reminded me of 'old things' and summer holidays spent at my grandmothers. Talking 'bout reminiscing, right! So I bought it. And although I don't usually wear such short skirts (big knee complex), I do think this one flatters me. It's short, but flowy, and it makes my legs look longer.

The top is a DIY project Karolien and I did a couple of weeks ago. You can read all about it HERE. It's a regular white top, made less regular by dip and dyeing it! I know, it's tucked in my skirt so it's not very visible. But you get the idea. I thought the pink went perfectly with the flowery pastel pattern of my skirt. Also, these light colors and fabrics were perfect for the blistering heat we had to hammer!

I must admit that I didnt' make the perfect choice of shoes. I just chose flats and pink and peeptoes, because I love peeptoes. But H&M ballerinas just aren't made for walking around in all day. Or at least not at a festival where you had to park your car on a 45 minute walk from the festival terrain. Yes, 45 minutes! Seemed like forever! But it did save us the parking fee you otherwise would have to pay. The result: blisters on my heels! So the second festival day I decided to wear my H&M minty sneakers, but the damage had already been done. Auwtch!

Have any of you been to Rock Werchter? What did you wear to defeat the heat? Let us know in the comment section below so we can have a nice chat and we can gasp about all the pretty things you guys were wearing.

Twas a Dip and Dye Day

Dip and dye is hot. Whether it's your hair or your clothes, dip and dye is the way to go. Considering that we already tested and unanimously approved the dip and dye hairstyle, we thought it was time to dye some of our clothes. So, a few weeks ago on a rainy Sunday (well, we have plenty of those here) we had a jolly Dip and Dye Do It Yourself Day. Whatsyaneed for a fun day like that? Something you want to dye: a shirt, some denim shorts, a denim pants... Don't matter! Next, you also need textile paint, kitchen salt, disposable gloves, rubber bands, bleach (for decolorizing denim or other fabrics), buckets and water. We chose the colour Flamingo Pink, of course because of the ravishing name.

We started by dip and dyeing our already white shirts. Very easy: we followed the instructions on the wrapping of the textile paint and filled a bucket with warm water and added the textile paint powder. It  said on the wrapping that you should add some kitchen salt, so we neatly followed those instructions as the goody two-shoes we obviously are. Important note: your shirt has to be somewhat humid, so you can best wash it beforehand. We dipped our shirts halfway in the paint bucket and let the paint to its job.

After about ten minutes or so, we pulled to shirts out a bit to have a graded effect, going from light pink to darker.

Afterwards, you waited for what seemed like ages, but what was in real life about 45 minutes, for the shirt to further soak in the paint. Luckily, we had some magazines and my granny to avoid getting bored out of our minds. My granny is so cool!

Le moment supreme, how did it turn out? Pretty good, if we say so ourselves!

I did something alike with my denim shorts. Only, I bleached them in advance 'till they were almost white so that the colour would pop out more. I also made some knots with rubber bands to have some cool effects. The rest is pretty much the same as explained above with the only difference that I used two colours on the shorts: blue on top and pink at the bottom. I absolutely love, love, love the result: hellooo, new festival outfit! You shall definately see me rocking these shorts on the Pukkelpop festival this summer!

Lies decided to try something a bit different on her denim pants: tie dyeing, which is also incredibly easy. No dye needed, actually all you need is in this case not love, but some bleach and rubber bands. You make knots with the rubber bands and that creates some unique patterns after you have submerged the pants in the bleach. You can see the result here and in the picture below.

Dip and dyeing or tie dyeing is really easy and really good on your budget (oh, budgets, the horror!). Why spend money on buying things you can so easily create yourself? So dive in your wardrobe and dye those discarded clothes! I'm kinda starting to feel like a dip and dye promoting commercial, but what the heck, a girl has to be overly enthusiastic from time to time, right?!
