We Wear: Sorry not sorry

A week overdue, but hey, there's a new Peaches & Peaches update. As I've already mentioned, last week, I kind of lost track of the blog (t t t), because a) it was almost Groezrock, ONLY the best festival ever - and yep, after attending for ten years in a row I get to come to that decision, and b) loads and tons of work which come with the perks of finishing a PhD. But let's not dwell on the past, nor make promises along the lines of 'I'll do better'. JUST MOVE ALONG ALREADY. Oh, and also, it was my birthday on Monday, preparations, preparations. I cannot believe I've turned 27. It's as if that happened in the blink of an eye. Yikes.

This is the outfit I wore Easter Sunday. I didn't put a lot of thought in it, I just got back from my snowboarding holiday and only knew for a fact that I wanted to take my amazing jelly sandals out for a spin. I'm already contemplating getting another pair, they are surprisingly comfortable.

What We Wear Wednesday: Quiz me quick

I wore this outfit to attend a quiz last Friday, hence the non-inspirational title of this blogpost. We ended up sixteenth out of fifty, so not that bad! Although I can't take credit for that. I really don't know by heart which is the sixth planet from the sun, or what the abbreviation EGKS stands for. I DID know who are the main two characters from the well-known trilogy "Fifty shades of Grey" while nobody else knew that (I mean, really?), and that was worth two points, hallelujah!

To the ones actually paying attention: yes I'm wearing the same loafers as I posted as inspiration in my previous post. They were too pretty not to take home, but they do hurt my feet like hell as they are rather stiff. The pricetag was also a bit higher than expected. I didn't really pay attention, I figured they would be 10 euros like most shoes at H&M, but then at the register I had to pay a lot more then I calculated in my head. Apparently these shoes cost almost 20 euros. Oops.

The blazer is actually a winter item and it gives me an English feel. I like the way it turned out combined with my flamingo top and burgundy pants. I can't stress it enough that burgundy pants are a must-have for everyone. It works well with EVERYTHING! My forest green thrifted purse also adds to the English feel. That really was a bargain, I should go thrift shopping more!

This is (or feels like) a rather classy, grown-up outfit, but I'm sure the flamingos, necklace, bow ring and pink nail polish make the whole thing a lot less boring and more "me". I'm sure people will still gasp when I say I'm actually 25. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

What We Wear Wednesday: Job Interview

As I mentioned before, I'm recently graduated and looking for a job. During summer I had my summer job, vacations, festivals and the boyfriend on my mind, but ever since I got back from our surf trip and the boyfriend's back in Ghent, the job hunt is open.

I've been sending out my resume, motivation letter and portfolio to numerous interesting companies and I've been applying to several intriguing job vacancies. The VDAB website has been my best friend the last two weeks. 

And my efforts paid off. I have two job interviews planned for this week! Of course it's important that you make a good first impression. So first of all: dress to impress. I want to show you three outfits that I would wear to a job interview. Please do give me your opinion! I actually wanted to share even more outfits, but I ended up making the same combinations with different pieces of clothing. I found out I don't have that much interview-proof clothes!

Outfit number one: Coco Chanel

 I'm not actually wearing Chanel, but this image of Audrey Tautou in "Coco avant Chanel" inspired me. I love the French look with the navy stripes. It's classy, yet not boring. Yesterday I was searching some online shops for a highwaisted jeans, and today I went and got it at H&M. It's a perfect fit and a slight miracle. Usually I get really annoyed when trying on jeans in the fitting room. I end up miserable and feeling like an obese midget. My brain tends to overreact. Today I took three sizes with me in the fitting room and I had to go back to take an even smaller size. I was so taken aback! Clearly in a good way. These jeans fit me like a glove and it makes me want to erase everything I said about my ZARA jeans. I found my new love: highwaisted jeans. A total recommendation for everyone who has jeans issues!

Outfit number two: Variation

 This is actually a variation of outfit number one. These jeans just work so well with everything and they seem like the perfect pair of interview jeans. I brought in some more color by wearing my neon striped Mango blouse. I could've easily combined my Vans with this outfit, but I wanted something different. I bought these cute ballerina's last year at Carrefour for five euros. Score!

Outfit number three: Saint-Tropez vs job interview

This dress always makes me dream about strolling through the Saint-Tropez harbor, with a big hat and oversized sunglasses. But throw in some tights and a blazer and you can perfectly go to a job interview. Right? I wore this outfit for my internship interview at Boondoggle last year. And well, they hired me.

What We Wear Wednesday: Leopard Love

Last summer I already discovered the perks of loose, printed pants: I bought myself two pair of flower pants. After wearing them to death and actually growing a bit tired of them, I spotted the perfect new pair of printed pants on my holiday in France. And in my favorite print of all time: leopard. Yes, I have A LOT of stuff in leopard print and some people might even say I have everything in leopard and some other people might even say that it is TOO MUCH (my sister) and more people may say that I need to stop buying leopard printed clothes and accessories. To all those people I say: NO, I have the right, no even the duty, to buy as much stuff in my favorite print as I possibly can. I simply adore it and every time I spot something in leopard, my attention is immediately drawn. I cannot help it. It's my little addiction, quite harmless, right?

That being said and off my chest, I decided to dress up the leopard pants a bit. Normally I wear it quite comfortably and more edgy, but this time I wanted to try and look a little bit more up style. For that purpose, I wore my cream blazer and combined it with my collared blouse. I wasn't too sure about the outfit at the start of the day, but I came to really love the contrast between the dark leopard on the one hand and the white and pastel on the other hand.

Also notice the dip and dye necklace. I spent ages looking for it, but I couldn't find it anywhere and almost resorted to trying to fix it up myself. Luckily and weirdly enough, I found it after all this time in H&M, a shop where I almost spend every waking hour, so to speak.

What We Wear Wednesday: Floral

Last time I did a WWW Wednesday, I apologized for the horrible background in the pictures and I promised to do better next time. I enunciated with great bravery that there would be wavy trees and even some flowers. So, there you have it! Keeping promises like a boss, although I had to cheat a bit to get the flowers in the picture. Floral printed pants to the rescue, right? Make no mistake, those pants are no pajamas. Yes, indeed, there are in fact people who are quite easily mistaken, but what do they know, pfuh! Honestly, I have to admit though that they do feel as comfy as pajamas. But well, nobody said you can't wear something pretty and be pajamas-comfortable at the same time.

I took the pictures at my grandmother's house, so no, the dog is (thank gooood) not mine. Not that I don't like dogs, I'm just not particularly fond of them and I think it has something to do with a childhood trauma of mine. I seem to be talking a lot about my grandma lately, at least in the latest two blog posts. There's a very good reason for that though, she is so much fun! And so modern. Our hair colours even match: hers is purple all the way and mine is at the moment dip and dye purple(ish).

One more thing I wanted to share: I tried something new with my nails, as you can see in the picture. It's called Sunset Nails, but let's just call it Tequila Sunrise Nails, 'cause that sounds so much more fun. Pretty much everything with the word tequila in it sounds fun. Anyways, it's actually the same as doing ombre nails, applied with a sponge. I think this video is very helpful in that department, and if you just use yellow and red nail polish, it's a perfect sunrise! I have to say, I have not really the hang of it yet (I actually wanted it to look like this), but  I guess practice makes perfect...

Sixties Mods

I had THE greatest find EVER last weekend at my local  thrift shop. I'm pretty sure no one will ever top this find so I'm feeling pretty great right now. Curious alright? Well, I found the most perfect pair of worn down bowling shoes. I think these shoes are so perfect that I started wondering why they don't make regular shoes like this. Or am I missing out on something?

Anyways, I wore these shoes out to dinner the other night. Together with some pants and other stuff, no worries! And everybody kept complementing me about these shoes, about how wonderful they are and how it seems they are made just for me. HOORAY! One of my friends said there was some kind of movement in the sixties and those people would also wear bowling shoes and ride on Vespa’s. I had no idea what he was talking about, so I did some research today.

Seems he was right. They were called “Mods”. In fact there were two main groups in the British sixties: The Mods and The Rockers. They were very different and therefore didn’t get along very well. Although most of their quarrels were being enlarged in the media.

So who were these so called Mods? First of all, the name “Mods” is derived from “Modernists”. Mods loved modern Jazz and well in fact everything new, exciting, controversial and “modern”. Hence the name. Most Mods were working class teenagers who wanted to escape their working class faith. They had little responsibility and little money and wanted to “live for the moment” instead of saving up for the future. They were inspired by Italian and French styles and loved to wear tailored suits. However, when their style began to evolve they also wore sneakers with (Levi’s) jeans, shrunk to fit. Bowling shoes went in and out of style but their favorite shoes were Clarks: Desert boots. As for transportation, they rode on Vespa’s or Lambretta’s which they treated as a fashion accessory. They customized their scooters with lamps, mirrors and even fur. Scooters were the ideal transportation for these youngsters, it was cheap and they didn’t had to rely on public transportation when they wanted to stay out all night at dance clubs.

Mods didn't like The Beatles, but listened to The Who, The Small Faces, The Kinks, The Animals, The Yardbirds and so on. They also liked The Rolling Stones, but didn't like their 'scruffy' look.

So in this outfit, I’m a bit of a Mod’er! However my bowling shoes might be too ‘scruffy’ to be a typical Mod. And my hair isn’t nearly neat enough! I'm also loving this blazer I'm wearing. It's so darn versatile, it works with everything!
