We Wear: Autumn camouflage

Now that the dust from the big move to a (kind of) new city and starting an exciting new job has started to settle, I'm definitely getting back on my blogging schedule. And with that I can finally mentally prepare for fall to arrive, I can almost not wait for more days like the last few with lots of sunshine compared with the marvelous changing of the leafs. I also hope I will be feeling more inspired to create different outfits, because lately I've just been reaching for win combo's from the past. The fact that I'm not doing a lot of shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories, but instead am browsing Westwing, Ikea and other furniture shops could have something to do with that. Not a bad thing though as I'm exploring ALL the stuff I already have hanging in my closet again (read: in boxes that are awaiting to be unpacked). But I wouldn't be me if my mind wasn't already slightly wandering off to a serious shopping spree (spoiler: I did a practice run on Saturday). So do please share, what is your absolute upcoming fall essential, the must have of the brand new season? I need inspiration asap!

We wear: A forest in a forest

Ah, October, one of my favorite months of the year, or at least from the darker half of the year. Finally time to watch the leafs change into their most vibrant outfits and cozying up in warm knits with a hot beverage. Not to mention the fact that Halloween is a-knocking, which, as I've stated before and will state again on numerous occasions, is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. If you want some inspiration on how to dress up for Halloween, check out my previous posts from the past years (here and here).

Blouse: Sheinside - Necklace: Stradivarius - Denim: old (H&M) - Sandals: Sammydress - Bag: Sister (Hasselt)

However, this Indian summer we're experiencing makes it abundantly clear that all that is not going to happen right away. Not that I'm complaining, I'm still every inch a summer beach girl. This does give us the possibility to merge two seasons that mostly do not transition smoothly into one. Hello sandals with an autumn inspired outfit or bare legs on the first of October (guilty as charged). I had been eyeing this shirt for such a long time and when it was discounted to 12 euros, I finally clicked it home. No idea why I've procrastinated for so long, because it is such a lovely piece. Come to think of it, it may be the color that put me off: Orange is not really at all my thing. I had also been on the lookout for some boyfriend denims, but something about my proportions/butt/head/whatever gives a really weird vibe. No luck in that department, but I did find in the back of my closet said pants: At one point in my life, these were (more) tight-fitting, but never really skinny pants. Now they are the perfect boyfriend inspired pants for somebody who can't seem to get away with the regular ones they're selling everywhere. Take home message: Kids, never throw anything out (please do and teach me how).

What We Wear Wednesday: Summer shorts in autumn

My mom was browsing through the WWWW of last week and said that Lies always looked so cute, and that my outfits were never cute. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, I responded fiercely. I had been thinking about these cute polka dot shorts for quite a while, which means they have been vacating a spot in my bag (yes, I travel constantly between my hometown and Leuven) for a few weeks now. They are actually summer shorts - quite obviously - but I figured that in the soft autumn temperatures of the last few weeks they would also blossom. Hence, with the whole 'I can be cute too'-concept in the back of my head, I threw them on this weekend to have coffee with Lies. Which was actually boozed up coffee and good old wine, but coffee nevertheless.

The jacket is one of my favorites of all time, it used to be from my mom when she was 16 or so and has been in my possession since I was 19 or something. And it keeps coming back for more, evidenced by the following anecdote. In the summer of 2007, I forgot the jacket on the train (insert dramatic tune). I remember getting out of the train and panicking over my worn-out leather jacket that was - sadly - still on the train. I called the train company, filled in a lost and found items form, but it seemed gone forever. I bought a new leather jacket and moved on, with pain in my heart over my lost love. Until eight months later, I got a call from the train company that they found my jacket! I hurried over there and indeed, it was mine! I have no idea where it's been those eight months, but leather jacket of mine, let's never part again!

What We Wear Wednesday: Summer blues

Oh boy, is it autumn already?! We just got back from our surf holiday in Labenne, France (which was great!) and while we were gone, the whole country already went dark colors, hats and scarfs, full autumn style. I am so not ready for that, I just need a little Indian summer to say my goodbyes to sultry summer nights, barbecues and drinking cocktails outside.

The thing I have the most trouble with every time the season changes is the emergence of doubt about pretty much every single piece in my wardrobe. Especially in the transition from summer to autumn, I find this very annoying. Too chilly to wear frisky summer clothes, but not yet really into the whole autumn-winter vibe. And most importantly, I need to go shopping first, BEFORE autumn can start. I'm sorry for all you people who are ready for autumn, I'm just not, so you're gonna have to wait. By the way, am I the only one with this problem? Anybody else who finds it hard to hide your short denim shorts in the darkest places of your wardrobe while starting the everlasting search for the perfect winter coat?

Anyway, this outfit is a perfect example of me not knowing what to wear and especially not wanting to enter autumn. I wore this on Sunday, the day after we got back, to go to a handmade market that we talked about here (Bazaar Bizar Deluxe). Obviously without having a clue that whilst it was still summer in Labenne, that was sadly not the case here. Vibrant colors and no jacket, I nearly froze my ass off. Best way to get over this blues? Shopping time!
