We Wear: Proud as a peacock

I'm not entirely sure what exactly I'm wearing: Is it a sweater? Is it a dress? I intended it to be a dress, which is also the way it was depicted on the website, but I guess my legs decided - kind of - differently. Furthermore, ordering clothes from Asian websites is always a little bit living on the edge. It looks great on the site, you (at least in my case) order the largest size available and from that moment, it’s just fingers crossed that it will a) get to you in an acceptable time frame, and b) will fit you without needing to make too much adjustments. I was lucky enough with this dress that I could fit my big head in it (no joke). Besides, I'm no quitter: If I say it’s a dress, it better be a dress, so I wore an underskirt to prevent flashing my butt to strangers. And just like that, problem solved. This particular piece of clothing does seem to be a polarizing one as some people in my environment who I was sure would hate it just shrugged and others (yes I am looking at you) joked around about it ALL.DAY.LONG.  I just sat there like 'What the hell could ever possibly in either which universe be wrong with being inspired by a peacock when getting dressed in the morning?'. Sometimes you’re a black widow, sometimes you look like an ice cream and other times, a peacock is inspiration number one. I call it: Life.

And life is so much better in summer, which I re-realized last Sunday when we were fortunate enough to have our very first, real spring day here in Belgium. Pictures soon, although I must admit I was way too hot that day, in the literal sense of the word (I wore too many clothes, go figure).

We Wear: Sparkles

NOTE: I (Lies) was supposed to publish this post on Wednesday because Karolien was boarding the hills of Val Thorens. As per usual, I totally forgot. So a big sorry from me and here's Karolien's post! Enjoy the sparkles. xoxo

You already saw a preview from this outfit in the previous blog post, but with New Year's Eve in the very near future, I figured a complete display couldn't hurt. Most definitely because of all the sparkles, which in my mind is indispensable for New Year's Eve. As I will be spending my New Year's Eve in the mountains (snow! mountains! snowboarding!) however, I won't be going completely full on sparkly, so naturally I had to wear this dress on Christmas, which is the next best occasion to submerge yourself in sequins.

How will you be spending New Year's Eve? And how are those New Year's resolutions coming? Although I think resolutions are significantly overrated, especially if you have no intention of keeping them, I still feel the start of the new year provides the perfect occasion to try and do better. I can proudly say that I kept my resolutions for 2014: I learned to run (I'm at 10k now, while last year I couldn't even run one kilometer) and I'm still improving my cooking skills. Yay for me!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We Want: PhD defense dress

There are certain occasions in life when a lady just needs a pretty dress. Whether the goal is to go to prom in high school as a vicious 18 year-old or to attend a wedding when you're a twenty-something, the search for the perfect dress can turn out to be rather difficult, especially when you're not the of the dressy kind. Don't get me wrong, I love wearing dresses or skirts and I would definitely categorize myself as a girly girl. However, I have extreme difficulty with finding the appropriate dress for the appropriate, elegant, sumptuous occasion. I will spare you the details of the man dress hunt of a few weeks back when all of a sudden the dress I had in mind to wear to a wedding had become just a tad too big.

Only a fraction of time after successfully finding/fitting/obtaining said dress, I again found myself browsing through numerous websites in search of a dressy dress. This time however for a rather different occasion: As I've mentioned already on several occasions - and probably made you sick of it your ears bleed - I just finished my PhD. Well, that is, I finished the dissertation, but the cherry on the cake will be my forthcoming PhD defense in only two weeks from now. As I didn't have time and the weather worked against me for outfit pictures, I figured I'd share with you some of the possible winners that turned up after some extensive searching. I present you: What I Would Wear To My PhD Defense.

We Wear: Christmas attire

I will keep it extremely short today as I've got to prep myself for some more festivities (and I want to cuddle my presents a little - is that weird?). But before I do, I wanted to fulfill my blogger duties by showing you the outfit I wore yesterday for Christmas Eve (and let's face it, I'll wear it again today, oh, the horror).

I've had some trouble lately finding pretty dresses, until I stumbled in H&M on three all at once (while assuming I wouldn't find any). The flower dress is perfect to wear on an occasion like Christmas, because of the fit: you want eat whatever, without it being too tight. I combined it with some glitter tights and wedges, and added a vest I bought only on Monday (yihaa, pre sales!). The vest was exactly the reason I decided to confront the horrific Christmas crowds in the shopping street, because it suddenly dawned on me I needed a vest with a zipper. But I must say I do not get people doing all their Christmas shopping in the days leading up to Christmas. Why would you do that to yourself? Online present shopping for the win.

Enjoy your day and merry Christmas to all of you!
