We Ask: Knitted and Oversized

As you're probably getting tired of our faces on the blog, we decided to spice things up a little bit by introducing a new feature: "We Ask". In short, we'll be asking random people in our environment to pose in front of our camera wearing an outfit centered around a question we ask them. However vague that may sound, you'll understand soon enough what we mean as we introduce the first "We Ask" below starring my (Karolien) little sister, Annelies. We asked her about that one garment she cannot wait to wear this spring and summer.

Annelies:
"Hmm, that will probably be my oversized knitted vest. I used my precious Zara gift voucher I got for my birthday to get my hands on this beauty. I had been very anxious in deciding which item DESERVED the gift voucher. Ridiculous, I know, but this little pièce unique right over here, was worth every little cent of it! I was already looking for a vest to wear on breezy days in spring instead of always wearing my khaki parka jacket. Karolien and I went shopping a few weeks ago and we just bumped in it to in the Zara. And it fit like glove. Well, maybe not like a glove because that would inquire it to be quite tight. Okay okay, let me start again: it just felt great wearing it."

Annelies:
"In my head, I have already made a couple of possible combo’s to match with the vest. Turns out the knitted vest is multifunctional indeed. In general, this vest is a casualizer, that is to say, a vest to make your outfit more casual but not boring though (important nuance!). First of all, I can wear it a similar way as on the pictures below/above. I’d definitely opt for light colors to combine this vest with. For the next combo, I imagine myself being on holiday and ready to go do some sightseeing in the city by bike. In that case, I would wear it together with my ripped jeans shorts, cute brown cognac sandals and again with a top that’s not too dark. Oh man, I’d also wear this beautiful layered golden necklace with it. Slight problem though: don’t have one yet. Oh, I just came up with a third way to wear this knitted vest in spring/summer: on the beach! This vest might be the ideal solution to put on when you’re feeling a bit chilly. I must say, I can actually see myself go buy some ice cream at the local beach bar with just my bikini and this knitted vest on. Good God, give me summer right now, please!"

Annelies:
"I must say it felt a bit strange being the model this time as most of the time I’m the photographer in Karolien’s pictures. Finally, I know Karolien’s struggles: the funny, slightly awkward posing, the avoiding-other-people-(we-know) while doing so (Terkoest is a very small village indeed), the doing the same pose over and over again because the lighting is not good enough, the looking for the perfect setting (where are those damn blossoms?). However, I must say, despite the embarrassing moments, I had a great time doing this with my eldest sister! She’s quite the perfectionist, but now I know what a pain in the ass I can be while taking pictures of her. Some examples: “Other face”, “different move”, “put your hair back”, “fierce look”, “weird face”, and so on. But, I had a hell of  a good time!"

Thanks to Annelies for featuring in our very first "We Ask"!

We Wear: Eat my shorts

This weather has got me craving for Groezrock (oh yes, the countdown has begun) so I thought it was appropriate to show you a potential Groez outfit. Dressing for festivals means dressing versatile with loads of layers and options for cold and warm weather. We all know I'm no hero in that area. I just put on boots and think I'll be safe in whatever weather circumstances.

These boots happen to be the oldest pair of shoes that I own. Their mine for nine (!) years now and that, my friends, is a record. It also confirms I'm getting old. I don't wear them that often anymore - read: never - but they have accompanied me to Groezrock before. An ideal festival boot if you ask me: they may get dirty, they spice up my outfit, they keep my feet dry and warm(ish).

The dungarees are new and a fun change from the usual shorts I wear to festivals. And when I spotted this Bart Simpson top I immediately pictured it with this outfit. I'm telling you, it's Groezrock whispering in my ears.

Is anyone of you coming to Groez this year?

(I'm sorry I did the jumping thing again.)

I'm wearing:
Dungarees: Only via Zalando
Bart Simpson top: H&M
Panty's: Zalando
Boots: Sacha (old)
Knee socks: H&M
Sunglasses: Komono
Watch: Casio via Urban Outfitters

We Wear: Pug life

Yes, I am well aware that this outfit may be slightly mismatched with the current weather. I do have a good reason to post it nonetheless: There's a pug on my beanie. Period. Look at the pug!

This will however - fingers crossed - be the last time I'm wearing the good old winter coat + beanie combination on the blog, I promise. What you will be seeing plenty more of are my new Nikes. It happened, I caved once again. Before buying my first pair of Nikes last year, discounting the ones I used to have to exercise at primary school, I could have never imagined the fascination and comfort they bring. Hi, my name is Karolien and I'm an addict. I was in tremendous doubt about buying another pair, but after browsing Pinterest and writing a blog post about the white sneaker trend, I fell in love. And I have been falling ever since. These are hands down and by far the most comfortable, easy going, versatile sneakers I own. I have already some outfits shots ready to show them off on the blog. You will probably get sick of seeing them, for which I apologize in advance.

We Wear: Mom jeans

I've been wearing a lot of grey hues these days and I totally blame winter for that. I've been suffering from a mild winter blues (quarter life crisis?) and I've been bundled up in cozy sweaters since what seems like forever. But I can smell spring and I'm looking forward to dressing up like a pastel sundae again. In that regard I wish I could've kept my pink hair forever, but alas.

To give spring a hearty welcome I already bought some new sunglasses. I spotted the Lulu by Komono some time ago and they crossed my path completely coincidentally last weekend in Maastricht, so all I had to do was grab it and pay for it. And that's what I did. I don't think I ever owned a more face flattering pair of sunglasses before.

I'm wearing:
Sunglasses: Lulu by Komono
Earrings: Kono and Orca
Scarf: Asos
Cardigan: H&M
T-shirt: Ebay
Mom jeans: Asos
Socks: Urban Outfitters
Platform sneakers: H&M

We Wear: Oui oui

Even though I usually like my outfits with an edge, sometimes I want to let my inner classy girl shine. For that, there is no larger inspiration than pretty street style French girls: They demonstrate that certain je-ne-sais-quoi, which makes way for an easy, minimalist, yet fashionable outfit. Think: stripes, brogues, and a thick camel coat to protect you from the very cold breeze roaming around Belgium. Add to that a hat, and you're good to go!

Also, high waisted everythings are one of the best sartorial discoveries I made in the past year. They are just way more flattering for my figure than regular denims, while creating an outfit a lot more interesting than your average top/denim combination. Especially if you pair it with a simple crop top, that other big love of mine. I can't wait for spring to break them out of my closet on a regular basis again!

PS: The pictures are slightly out of focus, but cold and windy will do that to you.
